Job Description
The Optician Level 1 provides basic optical services to customers by assisting with eyewear selection, fitting, adjustments, and order processing. This role focuses on delivering friendly customer service while adhering to company policies, vision care standards, and applicable state regulations. Level 1 Opticians typically work under supervision and may be newly licensed or in training.
Key responsibilities:
Customer Service
Greet and assist customers in a professional and friendly manner
Help customers select frames and lens options based on prescriptions and lifestyle needs
Answer basic questions regarding eyewear, warranties, and vision benefits
Resolve routine customer concerns and escalate complex issues as needed
Optical Services
Interpret basic eyeglass prescriptions under supervision
Take accurate measurements (PD, segment height, frame adjustments)
Fit, adjust, and repair eyeglasses for comfort and proper vision
Verify finished eyewear matches the prescription and customer order
Order Processing & Documentation
Enter customer orders accurately into Walmart optical systems
Process insurance and vision plan benefits as trained
Collect payments and explain pricing clearly to customers
Maintain accurate customer records and confidentiality
Operations & Compliance
Follow Walmart Optical policies, procedures, and safety standards
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Vision Center
Assist with inventory control, restocking, and display setup
Comply with all state and federal optical regulations
Job Requirements
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Entry‑level optician experience or optical training preferred
State optical license or apprentice registration as required by state law
Basic computer and point‑of‑sale skills
Ability to learn Walmart optical systems and procedures
