Blueprint Students Complete Successful Job Shadow Experiences

CCWD coordinated three job shadow experiences in Forensic Science for three individual high school students involved with Blueprint.  Two students shadowed with the Maryland State Police (MSP) and one with the local Sheriff’s Office Forensics Unit.

At MSP and through hands-on exposure and direct conversations with professionals in the field, both students gained meaningful clarity about their future paths. One student was inspired to pursue a future degree in forensic science, while the other confirmed their interest in a medical career pathway.

At the Sheriff’s Office, the student spent two hours with a crime scene technician, getting a forensics demonstration along with an in-depth conversation about the field and what it is actually like. The student came away with a much greater understanding of the different roles within a crime lab and was able to identify that she would like to pursue a career as a Forensic Technician, working in a lab as opposed to in the field as a Crime Scene Technician. She is planning on applying to WVU to their forensic science program.
