Career Preparation:

An ongoing, multi-stage process that utilizes tools and resources to build skills and explore career pathways to help bridge the gap between education and the workforce.

Students get firsthand exposure to careers, helping them make informed decisions about their future. Observing professionals in the workplace gives insight into daily tasks, required skills, and work environments.

  • Guided by an individualized training plan established through cooperative efforts of the student, school, and employer.
  • Student eligibility for participation:
    • Senior status
    • 5 GPA
    • 94% attendance
    • 75 service-learning hours completed
    • Completed 3 credits of a completer or career major
    • Acceptable behavior/disciplinary record

A structured, simulated job interview where students practice professional communication and employability skills with adult volunteers. It mirrors a real interview setting often lasting 10-15 minutes. It helps students to build confidence, receive constructive feedback, and refine their résumés.

Small group workforce development seminars to help students build knowledge and skills pertaining to résumé development and interview preparation.

Mandatory graduation requirement. Students must complete 75 hours of service combining academic preparation, service activities, and reflection. Hours must address community needs in areas like health, education, or environment, and approved by a school coordinator.

College and Career Readiness (CCR), sets a standard to prepare graduates for success in college and the workforce by ensuring students have the knowledge and skills necessary to compete. The Blueprint aims to have all students meet the CCR standard by the end of their 10th grade year.

Career Planning:

Aligning interests, skills, and values with potential career paths through self-assessment, exploration, and goal setting. It focuses on building self-awareness, exploring industries, and identifying education or training pathways such as trades, certifications, or college.

Structured process of self-discovery, exploration, and planning connecting personal interests to future goals. It involves identifying skills, researching industries, gaining practical experience through networking and shadowing, and creating actionable, flexible roadmaps for post-graduation.

Support high school students in finding employment by guiding them through job search strategies, connecting them with local opportunities, and helping them navigate applications, résumés, and interviews to secure meaningful work experiences.

A workforce transition for early graduates.

A two-tiered model designed to support students as they prepare for life after high school. Students receive guidance in entering the workforce and connecting to postsecondary workforce services such as WIOA Young Adult.

  • Tier One: Workforce Transition for Early Graduates supports students graduating early (January)
  • Tier Two: Senior Transition assist traditionally scheduled graduates (June)

Apprenticeship Maryland Program (AMP): Youth Apprentices join through their school and apply for paid, part-time positions with local employers, gaining classroom instruction and hands-on training.

Students earn course credit and, after graduation, can continue into a Registered Apprenticeship or enter the workforce—often with their employer.

Licensure & Certification Programs:

Seniors may be able to participate in a Workforce Training Program at Carroll Community College

Build knowledge of dental anatomy and terminology, charting, dental care and periodontal disease, HIPAA, and patient privacy. Hands-on experience with dental instruments, materials, OSHA infection control standards, pain control, and operative dentistry procedures.

Teaches essential skills for medical terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, dosage unit conversions, medication safety, pharmacy law, ethics, and inventory management. Hands-on may include learning aseptic technique, sterile and nonsterile compounding, OSHA regulations, and medical equipment.

CERTIFICATION:

Welder training typically teaches essential hands-on skills in core processes like MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and Stick (SMAW) welding, alongside crucial safety protocols, metal preparation, and blueprint reading.
