Job Description

EcoAmbassasdor
Seasonal intern, part- time

Reports to: Programs Coordinator

The goal of the EcoAmbassadors program is to empower youth leaders to promote principles of environmental stewardship, climate resiliency, and waste reduction in communities around the Baltimore region.

Each EcoAmbassador will research an environmental problem, create and deliver a presentation around their topic, and then form small groups of 3 – 4 members to address their selected topics. Each group of EcoAmbassadors will then partner with a community organization to develop and implement a project which addresses environmental problems within their community. Example projects could include leading a volunteer trash or invasive species clean-up event, conducting education and outreach on sustainable practices to community members via flyering, tabling, or hosting an event within their community, and more!

EcoAmbassadors convene in person twice a week with the Programs Coordinator or Programs Assistant and their fellow EcoAmbassadors to receive training, develop ideas, and coordinate the logistical aspects of their events. EcoAmbassadors will also strive to comprehend the mission and vision of Howard EcoWorks as an organization while developing skills and knowledge surrounding the environmental field.

This year, there will be two cohorts of EcoAmbassadors, one meeting in Howard County and one meeting in Baltimore City. There will be days when the cohorts meet all together to facilitate connections and shared learning between them.

Responsibilities & Duties:
Attend and participate at in person meetings twice a week at the cohort’s meeting location between June 22 – August 14, 2026 (4 hours per week).

Meeting space will be available up to 60 minutes after the weekly meetings for EcoAmbassadors to use as needed for individual and group work.
Independently research an environmental topic and deliver a 5 minute presentation on it to fellow EcoAmbassadors
In small groups of 3 – 4, identify community organizations to partner with and perform outreach to engage the organization
In small groups and in partnership with a community organization, develop and implement a project to address an environmental problem in that community.
Each small group will document their project and give a presentation about it at the end of the program
Manage a project budget of $125 per group member: $375 for groups of 3 and $500 for groups of 4.
