What You Will Do
As the Park Maintenance Supervisor at Hashawha Environmental Center and Bear Branch Nature Center, you will manage employees and work alongside them to perform construction projects, repairs, and maintenance on existing structures and equipment while working within the scope of a budget you have created. Daily tasks will include project planning, job assignments for staff, and operating equipment, while ensuring safe equipment use and work areas. The leadership you provide will help ensure facilities and grounds are safe and accessible for all visitors.
Essential Duties
• Plan, direct, and perform construction, repairs, projects and preventative maintenance of grounds and facilities.
• Plan future construction, renovation and maintenance projects. Develop estimates for in-house projects.
• Meet with contractors and evaluate estimates for projects when necessary. Coordinate with other agencies for support as needed.
• Operate and maintain a full range of construction and grounds maintenance tools and equipment. Safely operate a chainsaw to perform limbing and bucking.
• Maintain daily work scheduled records, materials lists and inventories. Prepare materials for work assignments for volunteers and students.
• Record and manage data using a Computerized Maintenance Management System, including logging daily work and preventative maintenance tasks.
• Perform basic electrical and plumbing maintenance and repairs. Perform janitorial services as needed.
• Oversee snow removal and other emergency operations.
• Apply and follow all established safety rules and regulations. Ensure the maintenance of a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
• Implement standards through policies, procedures, and work schedules. Lead team training to reinforce integrity, ethics, and use of best practices.
• Encourage collaboration and support team members work and development through mentorship. Build and maintain a welcoming workplace.
• Maintain transparent communication to support flow of information in the organization.
• Review budgets for the office. Recommend reallocating resources when necessary.
• Lead team operation to meet standards set in Federal, State, and local laws. Partner with legal counsel to ensure policies, procedures, and practices follow applicable Carroll County ordinances.
• May perform additional duties in supervisor’s absence.

Education and Experience
• Trade school or technical training in related field
• Three or more years of related experience
• One or more years of supervisory experience or demonstrated ability to perform supervisory duties.
• A comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirement.
Required Licenses and Certifications
• Valid driver’s license
• Certified Pool Operator license (or must obtain within six months of employment)
• Department of Transportation (DOT) physical card
• CPR, AED, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogen certification (or must obtain within 6 months of employment)
Preferred Licenses and Certifications
• Class A or B commercial driver’s license (CDL)

• Flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• May be identified as Essential Personnel during emergency situations.
• On-call for weather related emergencies and facility related issues while Hashawha Environmental Center is in session.
Working Conditions
• Frequent exposure to potentially adverse weather conditions.
• Frequent physical activity: lifting and carrying over 50lbs, climbing ladders and steps, standing/walking, pushing/pulling, bending, reaching, squatting, stooping, and related activities.
• Occasional exposure to potentially adverse environmental conditions, including, but not limited to, chemicals, noise, and airborne particles.
• Must wear appropriate PPE as required.
