Part Time LPN – Rev. 9-2023

Reports to: Chief Health Officer
Status: Part-Time/Non-Exempt
Pay: Hourly / Non-Exempt – $28 to $30/Hour includes $500 Signing Bonus after 90 days
Hours: 28 to 30 hours per week
Schedule: Varied both Day & Evening Shifts including Weekends

The Addiction Healing Center at the Westminster Rescue Mission is a CARF accredited SUD/Mental health residential and outpatient treatment program looking for a part-time LPN to join our dynamic team. Primary responsibility will be to provide holistic care to patients with substance abuse/mental health disorders, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are met. You will play a crucial role in supporting patients through withdrawal symptoms, administering appropriate medications, and promoting long-term recovery. We provide a comprehensive continuum of treatment for adults 18 years and older. Clinical programs include assessment, inpatient residential SUD treatment, intensive outpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment, dual diagnosis, mental health, and prevention services.
The ideal nursing candidate must have excellent assessment, communication, and decision-making skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform the Nursing Assessment for each client at admission and provide for each client at discharge a care plan for continuing medical conditions.
• Assess and monitor patients’ physical and mental health, specifically related to substance abuse disorders.
• Develop and implement customized care plans, tailored to individual patient needs and recovery goals.
• Administer medications and treatments, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and regulations.
• Educate patients and their families about the nature of addiction, recovery strategies, and available resources.
• Conduct comprehensive health assessments, including monitoring vital signs, laboratory tests, and mental health screenings.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to create an integrated approach to patient care.
• Monitor and document patient progress, identifying potential setbacks or relapses, and adjusting care plans accordingly.
• Ensure adherence to ethical and legal standards related to patient confidentiality and privacy.
• Stay updated on the latest research, treatment modalities, and best practices in addition nursing to provide quality care.
• Participate in continuous education programs and workshops to enhance professional competence.
• Promote a positive work environment and foster effective communication with colleagues and healthcare professionals.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation.
• Assist in the development and improvement of policies and protocols related to substance use and mental health nursing.
• Adhere to safety protocols and strictly follow infection control procedures.
• Strong understanding of substance abuse disorders, withdrawal symptoms, and recovery strategies.
• Ability to provide compassionate care, support, and guidance to patients and their families.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build trust and establish effective relationships with patients.
• Proficient organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritize patient care effectively.
• Knowledge of legal and ethical guidelines related to nursing practices.
• Follow-up with any patients in need of medical follow-up as determined by review of medical file/documentation.
• Administer medications to clients as needed, as well as supervise the self-administered medications, where appropriate and allowed by regulation, and is responsible for safe and secure storage of all medications.
• Maintains all medical forms in clinical records in complete and timely manner.
• Maintain adequate inventory of medical supplies and accurate records of same in compliance with governing regulations and agency policy.
• Monitor client’s complaints and incidents, reply in accordance with agency/ regulatory body guidelines for complaint tracking procedures and complaint policy.
• Works with staff, as necessary to resolve incidents.
• Responsible for implementing, adherence, monitoring and follow-up on Infection Control/Surveillance reporting.
• Maintain a system of client care records; reporting forms, client and service data and any other needed client care information as required.
• Ensures that all client care services are coordinated and integrated as indicated.
• Arrange appropriate appointments with Health Care Providers to secure required additional health screenings and supplemental tests.
• Provide education for clients regarding health, nutrition, safety, self-care, symptom management and medication compliance.
• Maintains a multi-disciplinary approach to delivery of services. Participate in treatment/multidisciplinary team meetings.
• Accepts and performs duties assigned by Chief Health Officer or Designee who are appropriate to this job description but are not here specified.
• Attends meetings as necessary or required.
• All other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, Education and/or Experience:
• Ability to review charts on an ongoing basis in preparation for audits and to ensure compliance.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain the client’s right to courtesy and confidentiality.
• Consistently observes essential discipline of the program.
• Use of sign-in logs, incident logs, reporting to supervisors, punctual attendance at required staff meetings and training sessions,
• Consistently and promptly performs all monitoring as prescribed by Infection Control Policy.
• Demonstrated ability to train staff in medication procedures.
• Consistently arranges client medical referrals-out according to policy and demonstrates ability to orient clients to procedures for departure and return from appointments.

Minimum Requirements
• AA (Associates Degree) required, Maintain LPN license with good standing.
• 1 year of experience
• Must be licensed through the Maryland Board of Nursing. Valid Maryland LPN license required, BLS certified, required.
• Ability to learn in-house software.
• If Recovering, five (5) years sobriety.
• Experience with mental health and substance use disorder patients (preferred)
• Must be able to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. This position may include weekend and/or evening duties as needed or required.
• Bilingual in Spanish Preferred

Physical Requirements: Standing, sitting, typing, bending, and lifting to 35 pounds.
