Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The CCPS Equity and Community Relations Officer will guide CCPS efforts to define, assess, nurture
and cultivate diversity as an institutional and education resource. The Equity and Community Relations
Officer will plan, coordinate, and assist in strategic efforts to engage and support students, families
and staff equitably. The job functions will require coordination of individuals, committees, and
community groups with a focus on supporting success for every student.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Supports the strategic plan through the development and implementation of equitable and
inclusive practices.
• Monitors school system data (e.g. attendance, achievement, discipline) in order to
collaborate with central office leaders and school administrators regarding needed support
for underrepresented student groups.
• Engages staff, families and students to build a welcoming and inclusive culture.
• Designs professional learning initiatives that focus on cultural competency to support the
work of equity and to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
• Serves as the chairperson of the Equity Council and oversees all aspects of program
development, grant coordination and compliance, and budget management.
• Collaborates with school administration and Equity Liaisons in the schools to develop
programs on equity and cultural proficiency.
• Serves as the school system’s liaison with local, state, and national organizations as well as
with students, the community, and other groups on equity and cultural proficiency issues.
• Manages community partnerships with CCPS.
• Advises the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction on the equity and multicultural needs of
the school system.
• Provides input to the teacher recruitment program to assure goals of equity and cultural
proficiency are being met through the strategic plan.
• Conducts Equity Liaison meetings on a regular basis to ensure program collaboration and
implementation, and serves as the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction’s designee to chair
the Equity Council.
• Provides support to the school improvement process. Supports Equity Liaisons, teachers,
parents and partners through consultations and observations and maintains collaborative
relationships with community agencies and school administration.
• Assists in the resolution of equity issues in the schools, including investigations, as appropriate.
• Reviews and recommends updates for policies related to issues of equity and cultural
proficiency.
• Leads the development of equity programs designed to encourage and promote parent,
community, and business support for the school system and student achievement.
• Designs, develops, and identifies educational resources and materials to be used for equity
programming.
• Prepares reports for the Superintendent, the Board of Education, and the state as needed, or
required, related to equity and community partnerships.
• Performs additional duties based on needs of the schools, staff and/or community.
Job Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum of 3 years leadership experience
• Admin II Certification
• At least 5 years of successful community collaboration and experience with research-based
“best practices” for equitable environments.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate and timely records and reports.
• Ability to work collaboratively with parents, students, school and central office staff, and
community leaders.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with school
system staff and community leaders.
• Ability to work with persons from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to provide technical assistance to staff.
• Ability to monitor, analyze and evaluate program systems and procedures, recommending,
making and coordinating appropriate changes.
