Wastewater Treatment Plant Apprentice Operator I, Apprentice Operator II or Operator – Bureau of Utilities
$37,960 – $45,116 annually ($18.25 to $21.69 hourly) (Grade C07 – C09) 40 hours per week.
Hours are typically Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM

The Bureau of Utilities is seeking an ambitious individual to join our Wastewater Treatment Division staff.
As an Apprentice Operator or Operator, you will have water sampling and testing responsibilities as well as equipment maintenance and repair assignments at the Hampstead Wastewater Treatment Plant and at the Division’s three Sequencing Batch Reactor treatment plants at Pleasant Valley, Runnymede Elementary School and South Carroll High School.
This position provides an excellent opportunity to work within an Enhanced Nutrient Removal (ENR) based wastewater treatment facility in Hampstead and to gain a full understanding of the processes involved with this treatment approach. The Hampstead facility recently completed a multi-million-dollar comprehensive upgrade project to meet current State of Maryland requirements. Ideal candidates for these positions will work well with others and be self-motivated.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
2. Valid driver’s license
3. Department of Transportation (DOT) physical card; and
Apprentice Operator I
4. One year of mechanical experience, preferably in the operation of a wastewater treatment facility
5. Must apply for a State or Maryland Temporary Operator Class 5 Wastewater Treatment Plant License within 30 days of employment
Apprentice Operator II
4. One year of mechanical experience, preferably in the operation of a wastewater treatment facility
5. State of Maryland Temporary Operator Class 5 Wastewater Treatment Plant License
6. Successful completion of Class 5 Wastewater Treatment Plant State Operator Exam
Operator
4. Three years of experience in the operation of wastewater treatment facilities
5. State of Maryland Operator Wastewater Treatment Plant Class 5 License
