Job Description

• Participate in the support of the company’s safety programs, promoting and maintaining a high level of awareness and adherence to defined employee safety requirements such as lock-out/tag-out, personal protective equipment, etc.
• Support and promote the company’s goals through effective planning, communication, emphasizing the requirement for all team members to be efficient and effective in their respective responsibilities.
• Maintain and support positive employee relations, respect, and fair treatment of fellow employees; ensure all employees and ideas are respected and valued and are leveraged to improve business results.
• Effectively communicate daily metrics to packaging team and closely monitor performance throughout shift to ensure attainment of metrics, notifying Finished Goods Manager in a timely manner of any risk identified that prevent achievement of metrics.
• Perform / check / monitor the setup and operation of packaging and bagging equipment on designated product lines according to the production schedule.
• Observe equipment operations, monitor standard running conditions and parameters, and perform necessary adjustments to ensure quality and productivity standards.
• Continually performs inspection of finished goods to ensure all product seals meet standards defined by product specification and effectively communicates to team when standards are not being met.
• Enforce company, plant, and departmental policies and procedures and work instructions including but not limited to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP’s), safety policies, GMPs, HAACP standards, and SQF standards
• In time of need, act as the backup to the Packaging Manager.
• Continually performs inspection of finished goods to ensure all date and lot codes are legible and correct effectively communicates to team when standards are not being met.
• Ensure all production complies with Company quality and food safety standards.
• Clean and sanitize equipment in accordance with company sanitation standard operating procedures.
• Assist with changeovers properly and efficiently.
• Manage break schedules to ensure daily targets are met.
• Perform safety checks on every machine prior to and during runtime.
• Ensure that machines are producing quality products by managing periodic checks on output.
• Ensure that enough material is available to meet the production quota and scheduled run.
• Setup basic operational parameters (run speed, quantity, shapes, and sizes) on machine terminals or controls.
• Ensure all finished product is within defined specifications.
• Ensure all shift documentation is accurately completed and verified prior to turning in to management.
• Perform random checks to ensure product is being made accurately and safely according to specifications and guidelines.
• Continually evaluate SOPs / OPLs/ VAGs to current procedures to ensure accuracy.
• Create and maintain activity/job logs as required.
• Record all production performance, counts, downtime and other quality or production related information as required.
• Communicate with quality control, sanitation, and other departments to communicate and resolve issues impacting production and plant performance.
• Meet specified production performance targets of quality, output, cost and waste reduction.
• Ensure packaging integrity and appearance.
• Participate in production process improvement efforts.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Production and processing experience preferred.
• Knowledge and experience with GMPs and HACCP.
• Experience with implementing SOPs.
• Ability to motivate and lead a team.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Possess excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).
• Ability to work independently.
• Basic math skills.
• Proficient with MS Office Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
• Able to arrive on time and ready to work.
• High school education or equivalent
• Previous packaging machine experience preferred.
• Ability to safely lift, push, pull up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to input data into the computer.
• Ability to prioritize and withstand routine and repetitive work.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Experience using a forklift preferred.
• Desire to continually learn.
• Ability to handle and work in high pressure and time-sensitive situations.
• Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
