Job Description

Department: Athletic Program

Pay Grade: N/A This part-time, seasonal position will be compensated at $6500.00 annually per 10 month annual contract period.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

The main responsibility of the head coach is recruiting and maintaining a roster of eligible student athletes for the men’s lacrosse program, requiring relationship building through the county high schools to reach coaches, students and parents. Also responsible for supporting the mission, vision, values and strategic priorities of the College. This position reports to the Athletic Director.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Develop strategies to recruit student athletes
Learn NJCAA eligibility requirements for student athletes
Hold organizational team meetings
Assess student skills and assign team positions
Develop regular practice schedule and organize practice time to develop to provide both individual and team development
Determine game strategy based on team’s capabilities
Work with the Athletic Director and/or Athletic Trainer in scheduling facilities/venues for practices and competitions
Supervise assistant coaches
Coach and instruct students, individually or in groups, regarding rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport
Observe students during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement
Maintain standards of student athlete behavior and provides supervision of the athletes at all times
Monitor the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard
Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury
Follow state, regional, local and college regulations governing the athletic program
Model good sportsmanship behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards students, officials and spectators
Follow established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies and uniforms
Complete all College mandated staff development
Complete First Aid and CPR training
Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

Bachelor’s Degree.
Minimum of three years’ experience as a head lacrosse coach or assistant coach at the high school or college level.
Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
Must possess a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with College staff and student athletes.
Supervisory experience.
Must be positive, cooperative and supportive.

Preferred:

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Demonstrated recruiting knowledge and skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is normally light work requiring exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Crouching and bending may be required at times.

Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

Hear/talk/communicate – Must be able to exchange information and communicate
Visual acuity – Ability to perceive or detect surroundings
Mental acuity – Able to focus, concentrate, understand, and convey subject matter
Repetitive motion (i.e., keyboarding)
Stand/sit/walk – Able to move or traverse from one area to another. The ability to stand or sit for long periods of time and to lift/move equipment

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

College campus, outdoor/indoor lacrosse venues, athletic training facility, travel to sports events/games and/or as required for recruiting student athletes. Observance of traffic laws when/if driving college vehicle. Part-time in-season hours (January 15-May 30) approximately 20 hours/week. Part time off-season hours (September 15-November 1) approximately 5 hours/week.

Must follow safety regulations and wear any required safety gear; some of the work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office, meeting, and training rooms; use of safe workplace practices with office equipment; observance of fire and building safety regulations and College policies.
