Job Description
POSITION: Machine Operator DEPARTMENT: Manufacturing
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt REPORTS TO: Manager of Manufacturing
GENERAL SUMMARY
Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, boring machines, and grinders, to machine metallic and nonmetallic work-pieces by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manufacturing:
• Actively demonstrates compliance to ISO 9001 and AS 9100, Quality System requirements in day to day operations.
• Reads blueprint or job order for product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, and
determines sequence of operations.
• Selects, positions, and secures tool in tool-holder (chuck, collet, or tool-post).
• Positions and secures work-piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures.
• Moves controls to position tool and work-piece in relation to each other, and to set specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut.
• Sets up fixture or feeding device, starts machine, and turns hand wheel to feed tool to work-piece or vice versa, and engages feed.
• Turns valve handle to direct flow of coolant or cutting oil against tool and work-piece.
• Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined work-piece to specifications.
• Operates bench grinder to sharpen tools.
• Sets up and operates machines and equipment other than machine tools such as welding machines and flame-cutting equipment.
• Able to operate hand tools (grinders, chisels, saws), crane, fork truck, and hand cart.
• Ability to come to work on a regular basis and on time. Ability to follow and maintain written procedures, work instructions, and safety regulations. Complete associated paperwork and documentation requirements related to various job assignments in a timely and accurate manner. Ability to work to deadlines, with supervision, under stress and with fellow workers.
• Pro-actively contributes to company’s overall mission and quality policy through teamwork, communication and organizational processes.
• Able to operate hand tools (grinders, chisels, saws), crane, fork truck, hand cart, and change associated gas bottles.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
• Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related
• Must be a US citizen.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or Associates of organization.
• Ability to implement long and short range goals for the organization, taking into consideration the mission of the organization.
• Ability to relate to people at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence and memos.

Calipers, roughing end mill, finished end mill, drills and tool inserts (electrodes), welding equipment.
