Job Description

Carroll County Government is seeking a resourceful, forward-thinking professional with excellent interpersonal skills to direct and manage programs, services, staff, and budgets of the Department of Recreation and Parks.
The Department of Recreation and Parks manages 4,794 acres of parkland and over 30 parks, offering programs and events for residents and visitors of all ages. As the Director you will oversee all operations of the Bureau of Recreation, Piney Run Park, Hashawha, Carroll County Sports Complex, and the Firearms Facility, ensuring compliance with appropriate governmental and other regulatory reporting requirements. You will work with advisory boards, elected officials, and community groups to develop strategic plans for the acquisition, development and maintenance of park and recreation facilities; regularly engage with citizens to ensure that programs meet the needs of all segments of the community; and develop a six-year Community Improvement Plan and long-range Comprehensive Master Plan.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation, public administration, or a related field
2. Minimum 5 years progressively responsible experience in parks and recreation administration, including at least 3 years in a senior management position
3. Designation as a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) preferred
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications
