Job Description

• Operates a regular education or special needs school bus transporting students to and from various schools on regular routes established by Carroll County’s Board of Education Transportation Services.
• Adheres to all Federal, State and Carroll County regulations and policies for the safe operation of a school bus.
• Performs pre-trip inspection of the school bus prior to each run per guidelines established by Federal, State and local authorities.
• Keeps the interior of the school bus clean.
• Obtains fuel for the school bus as needed using payment form provided by contractor.
• Maintains discipline of students on board while driving defensively.
• When necessary, takes corrective action to address on-board behavioral issues with appropriate students, school staff, contractor and Transportation Services.
• Submits periodic paperwork relating to route stops, student counts and mileage according to pre-determined schedules in a timely manner.
• Conducts semi-annual school bus evacuation drills under the guidance of school officials.
• Attends annual in-service training provided by Carroll County and any other employee meetings as required by the Contractor.
• Maintains a pleasant attitude and professional appearance.
• Maintains excellent attendance and punctuality.

Job Requirements

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license (Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred but not required).
• If not CDL-certified, candidates must undergo classroom and behind-the-wheel training and pass Maryland’s Motor Vehicle Administration tests to obtain a Class B CDL with passenger, school bus and air brake endorsements. Paid training is provided to obtain these credentials.
• Candidates must pass an initial and annual physical to comply with Department of Transportation requirements for motor vehicle safety.
• Candidates must have a relatively clean driving record, no criminal background and no history of substance abuse. Individuals are subject to mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
• No college degree or GED is required.
• Candidates must be able to speak clearly using the English language and must also be able to read and write in English.

MONDAY 6:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m.; 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.  TUESDAY 6:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m.; 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.  WEDNESDAY 6:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m.; 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.  THURSDAY 6:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m.; 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.  FRIDAY 6:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m.; 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
