Job Description
Reports to: Food Logistics Coordinator
Status: Part-Time/Non-Exempt
Pay: Hourly / Non-Exempt – $16/hour
Hours: 24 to 30 hours per week
Schedule: Varied Hours Monday through Friday depending on duties. Hours can start as early as 6:30 AM for food pick-up / truck routes or as late as 7:00 PM for community outreach events.
Organization Overview: Established in 1968, the Westminster Rescue Mission is a community that provides clinical, physical, and spiritual resources to heal the addicted and feed the hungry. We take a holistic approach with Christ as the foundation of our work. The Mission serves Carroll County and surrounding communities through its programs. The Addiction Healing Center (AHC) is a long-term, residential, faith-based treatment program for men. Westminster Rescue Mission is dedicated to overcoming the growing problem of food insecurity and hunger in the northern and western region of Maryland. The Mission Food Program is the largest re-distributor of food in Carroll County and provides hunger relief through our distribution network and community outreach services in partnership with area agencies and charities.
Responsibilities:
1) Warehouse: Perform warehouse duties including:
• Loading and unloading food from delivery trucks
• Sorting, weighing, and recording food received and/or distributed.
• Evaluating food received to determine food safety and eligibility for re-distribution.
• Organizing and storage of food in a safe manner.
• Preparing food orders for individuals or organizations.
• Assist with data collection for required reporting on a daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
• Assist with inventory activities as required.
2) Truck Driver: back-up and supplemental Food Program driver to transport and store food in a safe and secure manner, ensuring food is handled properly:
• Driving food pick-up routes safely and in compliance with all governmental requirements to various local stores, the MD Food Bank, other food/beverage donor locations and community food distribution outreach events. Coordinator shall adapt to vendor and/or route changes as necessary.
• Timely pick-up and delivery of food to the WRM Food Pantry Distribution Center or other designated locations as directed. This position may work independently or may work with other WRM employees, volunteers, and residential addiction recovery clients.
• Ensure that food that is picked up is loaded and labeled properly in a WRM food truck, that the truck temperature is recorded at specific times and to oversee the unloading, weighing, sorting and storage of food when it is brought to WRM.
• Coordinate with and develop relationships on behalf of WRM in partnership with food donors and notify WRM management of any issues or changes.
• Prepare daily logs and vehicle inspection sheets and record refrigerated truck temperatures.
3) General coordination with the team for effective implementation of the food program:
• Work with WRM addiction recovery clients, volunteers, and staff in a food warehouse environment, on daily food pick-up routes or other food related destinations/events.
• Assist with training and mentoring and oversee residential clients on procedures.
• Contribute to maintaining order and enforcement of policies, rules of conduct and disciplinary measures as appropriate, and in collaboration with Recovery Program staff.
• Communicates with Food Logistics Coordinator, Food Program Manager, Facilities Manager and other staff as appropriate about issues which may impact the functioning of the Food Program, the Mission and/or the well-being of clients.
• Attending all required training and other staff meetings or required activities.
• Effective in managing relationships with outside vendors, building partnerships, and promoting the Mission in the community.
• Assist with evening and weekend special events.
• Miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Food Program Manager or Food Logistics Coordinator or other WRM Management.
• Helps to ensure the overall security, safety, and cleanliness of the Mission, in an atmosphere which conveys the love of God to all clients, staff and visitors.
• Is genuine and honest in commitment to conflict resolution and resolves differences in opinion or conflicts in a timely and respectful manner.
• Seeks to grow in faith, pursue holy living, and encourage staff and clients to do the same.
Job Requirements
Requirements / Qualifications:
• Must be 21 years of age or older with a valid driver’s license.
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• A minimum of one year truck driving experience, 14-foot or larger
• Forklift Experience preferred. WRM will provide forklift training and certification within 30 days of hire.
• Must be or will become a DOT qualified driver within 30 days of hire (CDL License is NOT required). DOT Qualifications requirements include a periodic DOT physical, DOT drug test, and driver record check.
• Must operate the truck in accordance with Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles and FMCSA / Federal DOT requirements.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Candidates selected for hire are required to undergo a review of their driving record and background screening.
• Exhibits leadership, good judgment, sensitivity, and compassion. Demonstrates effective problem solving and communications skills.
• Knowledge of and commitment to the program, policies, and procedures of the Mission.
• Willing to work a flexible schedule for events for the Mission.

Physical Requirements / Environment:
• Frequent movement/motion of both upper and lower extremities, including, but not limited to: reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling or crouching
• Able to lift 60 lbs. on your own / Team Lift up to 100 lbs.
• Warehouse and outdoor environment
