Job Description

Essential Functions (specific duties include – but are not limited to):

• Contribute to an environment that encourages, supports and empowers participants
• Provide childcare to children in the Child Development Room and lead parent-child activities
• Administer developmental screenings and keep written observation records and developmental profiles on children
• Attend field trips to assist parents with supervision of children
• Model appropriate practice with children
• Maintain a safe, healthy and nurturing environment in the center, including doing laundry, dishes, cleaning in the Child Development Room, changing bedding and washing toys
• Prepare snacks as needed
• Participate in staff meetings and on-going training
• Participate in outreach and recruitment efforts
• Other duties as may be required or requested
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance at all times.
• Provide proof of automobile insurance at hire and annually

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Candidates for this position must possess the following skills: ability to interact with young children and their families; effective verbal/written communication skills; knowledgeable and comfortable in the use of technology; knowledge of development and behaviors of young children; project warm and nurturing interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as a team. Ability to make calculations, organize and perform a variety of tasks, often changing assignments on short notice. Must be positive, cooperative and supportive. Bi-lingual is a plus. Candidates are required to have a valid motor vehicle operator’s permit. Candidates hired for this position will be subject to the “Criminal Record Check” process.

Educational Requirements: Candidates for this position are required to have a diploma or certificate of completion from an accredited high school or equivalent program.

Candidates for this position are required to have one-year experience working with young children, 90-hour certificate preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Work Environment: Contact with all levels of personnel within the organization, participants in the Family Center and their children. This position works in a child’s environment. Must be able to bend and lift children up to 50 lbs. Must have the ability to get up and down off of a floor.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Part-Time (20 hours per week; 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.). Normal office hours with some flexibility according to the Center’s needs, evening hours may be required.

Travel Requirements: Occasional travel to meetings and trainings may be required.
