Job Description
Grounds Maintenance Worker I
As a Grounds Maintenance Worker I, you will perform basic grounds maintenance in accordance with all applicable industry standards, laws and regulations. Working under the direction of a Grounds Maintenance Specialist or Grounds Supervisor, you will apply your grounds maintenance knowledge and skills to operate and maintain basic equipment and tools. The work you do will support the safety and functionality of all County grounds and facilities.
Essential Duties
Maintain County grounds by performing leaf removal, mowing, trimming, trash cleanup, and other grounds maintenance tasks.
Operate and maintain basic grounds maintenance equipment and tools.
Follow all applicable laws and regulations, including OSHA, MOSH, Department of Natural Resources, State Annotated Code, and County Rules and Regulations.
Perform snow removal at County facilities as needed.
Gather proper materials and tools in preparation for jobs. Use resources effectively.
Follow all established safety rules and regulations. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
Complete assigned work in a timely fashion. Accept feedback.
Demonstrate an ability to collaborate and a willingness to learn. Participate in a supportive work environment.

As a Grounds Maintenance Technician, you will perform a full range of grounds maintenance in accordance with all applicable industry standards, laws and regulations. Working under the direction of a Grounds Maintenance Specialist or Grounds Supervisor, you will apply your grounds maintenance knowledge and skills to operate and maintain a full range of equipment and tools. The work you do will support the safety and functionality of all County grounds and facilities.

Operate a full range of grounds maintenance and construction tools and equipment, including heavy equipment. Maintain tools and equipment.
Apply landscaping techniques and procedures.
Assist with basic masonry and carpentry projects.
Assist in construction and maintenance of fences, roadways, fire lanes, and parking lots around County facilities.
Follow all applicable laws and regulations, including OSHA, MOSH, Department of Natural Resources, State Annotated Code, and County Rules and Regulations.
Perform snow removal at County facilities as needed.
Gather proper materials and tools in preparation for jobs. Use resources effectively.

Grounds Maintenance Specialist
As a Grounds Maintenance Specialist, you will independently perform a full range of grounds maintenance in accordance with all applicable industry standards, laws and regulations. Working in a lead capacity, you will apply your grounds maintenance knowledge and skills to operate and maintain a full range of equipment and tools, while providing guidance to other grounds maintenance staff. The work you do will support the safety and functionality of all County grounds and facilities.
Essential Duties
Independently operate a full range of grounds maintenance and construction tools and equipment, including heavy equipment, skid loaders, excavators, specialty mowers, and stump grinders. Maintain specialized tools and equipment.
In a lead capacity, maintain County facilities by performing tree pruning, leaf removal, mowing, trimming, trash cleanup, and other grounds maintenance tasks.
Apply advanced landscaping techniques and procedures, including tree trimming and pesticide application as assigned
Dig trenches, run drain lines, construct and maintain fences, roadways, fire lanes, and parking lots around County facilities.
Assist with basic masonry and carpentry projects.
Follow all applicable laws and regulations, including OSHA, MOSH, Department of Natural Resources, State Annotated Code, and County Rules and Regulations.
Gather proper materials and tools in preparation for jobs. Use resources effectively.
Follow all established safety rules and regulations. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.

Job Requirements
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
• Up to one year of related experience
• A comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirement.
Required Licenses and Certifications
• Valid driver’s license
• Department of Transportation (DOT) physical card
• State of Maryland Flagging Certification (or must obtain within six months of employment)
