Salary Details
This position will be placed on the 12-month non-exempt staff salary scale at grade 7. Actual salary placement based on qualifications and experience. Position includes an excellent fringe benefits package.

Job Summary
The Science Lab Technician I coordinates with the Science Lab Manager and is responsible for providing technical laboratory assistance to science faculty. It reports to the Division Co-Chair, Sciences

Essential Job Functions
Sets up and dismantles instructional laboratory exercises for both students and instructors following safety guidelines for all lab courses.
Maintains and cleans lab facilities and equipment.
Communicates with faculty to ensure smooth operation of laboratories.
Communicates daily with Lab Manager about concerns and issues that may arise.
Maintains inventories of chemicals and equipment and communicates supply needs to the Lab Manager.
Maintains collection of bacterial stock cultures.
Updates MSDS notebooks as needed.
Collects lab schedules from all science instructors.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements to Perform Work

Associate degree in a science-related subject
At least 20 credits in lab courses
Broad knowledge of technical lab procedures, analytical techniques and terminology
Minimum of one year’s experience in a lab environment preferred
Must be positive, cooperative and supportive

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is physically active on a medium level. It involves dealing with chemicals or biological elements as well as laboratory equipment. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

Hear/talk/communicate: must be able to exchange information and communicate
Visual acuity: ability to perceive or detect surroundings
Mental acuity: able to focus, concentrate, understand and convey subject matter
Repetitive motion (i.e. keyboarding)
Stand/sit/walk: able to move or traverse from one area to another

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
College campus, direct contact with diverse students, staff, faculty and the general public in classrooms, labs, common and shared areas, offices, and campus environments. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office, meeting, and training rooms. Use of safe workplace practices with office and lab equipment; need to follow safety protocol with chemicals and biological elements both in usage and storage to avoid potential dangers; computers for data entry and word processing with some highly technical applications and new technology systems; avoidance of trips and falls; observance of fire and building safety regulations and all College policies; observance of traffic laws when/if driving College vehicles.

TO QUALIFY FOR EMPLOYMENT, SELECTED CANDIDATES MUST:

successfully complete a criminal background check (for designated positions)
be able to work on campus as of the first day of employment
be a resident of DE, MD, PA, VA, WV or DC as of the first day of employment
be currently authorized to work in the US, as the College does not offer Visa sponsorships
