Job Description

As a part of the Department of Public Works, you will support county government by assisting with HVAC, plumbing, and minor electrical activities to ensure proper system functioning. You will use your knowledge of building systems and safety to diagnose and repair issues under the guidance of the Lead Building Maintenance Mechanic. The work you do will help Carroll County Detention Center maintain functioning systems and provide a comfortable environment.
Essential Duties
• Help maintain HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems through repair, installation, and replacement.
• Assist with paperwork and specifications.
• Perform visual and operational inspections, tests, and troubleshooting. Operate diagnostic computer equipment.
• Run service calls and make emergency repairs.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
• Follow OSHA, MOSH, ICC, County Rules and Regulations, State Annotated Code and other Federal, State, and local laws.
• Ensure all work is complete and timely to support department goals. Evaluate feedback and procedures to improve efficiency.
• Invite collaboration and seek learning opportunities. Proactively assist peers to create a supportive work environment.
• Exhibit integrity, ethics, and fiscal responsibility.

Job Requirements

You Might Be a Good Fit If
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
• Three or more years of related experience
• A comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirement.
Required Licenses and Certifications
• Valid driver’s license
• CFC Type II certification (or must obtain within 6 months of employment)
Additional Information
• May be required to work outside of standard hours.
• Requires criminal background check as condition of employment.
Working Conditions
• Daily exposure to potentially adverse environmental conditions.
• Work includes daily physical activity: lifting and carrying over 50lbs, climbing ladders, and related activities.
• Must wear appropriate PPE as required.
