Job Description

As the Canoe/Kayak Instructor, you will use your experience to prepare and lead campers through training and activities on the water. Your expertise will impact the safety of Piney Run Park through maintenance of equipment and supervision of canoe/kayak participants. The Camp Director will rely on you to aid in creating a fun and engaging park experience.
Essential Duties
• Lead games and events to reinforce canoeing skills.
• Design and implement lesson plans. Present twenty canoeing orientations.
• Maintain all canoe and kayak equipment.
• Evaluate the entire canoeing program, making constructive recommendations.
• Provide leadership to the Canoeing Assistant
• Exercise the highest standard of canoeing safety at all times.
• Attend camp staff orientation and participate in scheduled staff meetings.
• Uphold all park, camp and boathouse policies and regulations.
• Ensure all work is complete and timely to support department goals. Evaluate feedback and procedures to improve efficiency.
• Invite collaboration and seek learning opportunities. Proactively assist peers to create a supportive work environment.

Education and Experience
• One or more years of related experience
Certifications
• American Canoe Association (ACA) Essentials of Canoe Touring Skills Course (or must obtain prior to first day of camp)
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course or approved equivalent (or must obtain prior to first day of camp)
• CPR, AED, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogen training (or must obtain prior to first day of camp)
Additional Information
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Requires criminal background check as condition of employment.
• Work schedule includes weekends and holidays.
Working Conditions
• Daily exposure to potentially adverse weather conditions.
• Work includes daily physical activity: lifting and carrying over 50lbs, paddling canoes and kayaks, and related activities.
• Must wear appropriate PPE as required.
