Job Description

The Church of the Ascension, a welcoming Episcopal congregation in Westminster, MD, seeks a passionate and dedicated part-time Children & Youth Director to nurture and guide the faith development of our children and youth. We are looking for a dynamic individual who can nurture a vibrant and inclusive environment where young people can grow in their relationship with God and each other. Working closely with our Rector and a team of dedicated volunteers, you will play a vital role in coordinating and leading our various ministries with children and youth.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:
• A mature Christian with a passion for working with children, youth, and families.
• Experience in children and youth ministry or a related field.
• Understanding of child and adolescent development.
• Strong organizational, group facilitation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and volunteers.
• Familiarity with the Episcopal tradition is preferred.
General Responsibilities:
• Maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where all feel accepted and loved.
• Develop and implement engaging and age-appropriate programs for children and youth, including Sunday School, Youth Group, and special events.
• Support and develop the team in charge of the Children’s Chapel and lead it at least once a month or more as needed.
• Plan and execute seasonal events, such as but not limited to, Vacation Bible School, Summer Camps, youth-led services, retreats.
• Organize and lead regular Youth Group meetings and activities, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
• Facilitate Confirmation classes, in collaboration with the Rector and other volunteers.
• Develop and maintain a calendar of events to promote faith development and fellowship.
• Recruit, train, and support volunteers.
• Communicate effectively with children, youth, parents, and volunteers
• Collaborate with clergy and staff on church-wide events.
• Attend staff meetings and provide updates on ministry progress.
Time Commitment:
• Approximately 10 hours per week, including Sunday mornings and weekly meetings.
• Flexibility for special events and activities.
