Join Human Services Programs of Carroll County (HSP) and be part of a mission-driven team working to ensure homelessness in our community is short, rare, and non-recurring. As a Shelter Support Staff member, you will provide compassionate, hands-on support to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, helping them take steps toward stability and self-sufficiency.
What You’ll Do
Be a steady presence: Provide overnight coverage to ensure a safe, supportive environment for shelter participants.
Promote dignity and respect: Use motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care to assist participants in following shelter guidelines and achieving their goals.
Ensure safety and order: Conduct hourly safety checks, monitor security systems, and respond calmly to crises, contacting Mobile Crisis or emergency services when needed.
Keep things running smoothly: Complete shift reports, maintain accurate records in HMIS, and communicate effectively with the next shift.
Maintain a welcoming space: Oversee cleanliness of common areas, bedrooms, and facilities; assist with intake and exit processes for participants.

Job Requirements
What We’re Looking For
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to de-escalate situations, and basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office).
Experience: Comfort working with individuals facing barriers such as mental illness, substance use, trauma, or criminal history.
Other Requirements: Reliable transportation and proof of insurance (if required for the role).
