Workplace Excellence Series Focuses on Long-term Career Success

Carroll County Business/Employment Resource Center (BERC) staff offer a Workplace Excellence workshop series to customers monthly. Topics on workplace culture, communication, working smarter, multi-generational workplaces are covered in the five week series.  “The goal is to take essential workplace skills voiced by businesses and impart them to our job seekers. If the people who attend the workshops apply what they learn they will certainly achieve more career success!” stated Denise Rickell, BERC Manager.

Each session is two hours and the workshops are designed to help individuals to exceed employer expectations and shorten the job search.  Individuals may choose specific sessions to attend or may attend all of them; there is no charge for the workshops.

Workshops will begin again on February 14th. Download the series flier here.

Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services at BERC

Customers can now meet and talk with Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) staff member Sam Miller, Rehabilitation Specialist, who will be at BERC on two Thursdays a month from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm beginning February 9th (later dates are February 23rd  and March 9th & 23rd).  No appointment is necessary to discuss DORS services with Sam; check in at the front desk in the Resource Room.

Youth Program looking for work experience sites

Carroll’s Youth Program connects Out-of-school youth, ages 16-24, with continuing education, skills training for in-demand occupations, and work experience…all leading to a good job or enrollment in post-secondary education. One of the program challenges is to find qualified work experience sites where supervision is available to mentor the youth in expected work habits. If you have a business that is willing to provide a work experience site, we would like to talk to you. Some of the benefits of mentoring a youth in a work experience include positive community relations, expanding company labor resources in a tight labor market, and a wage subsidy provided by the program. If you would like to provide a work experience site, please contact Ashley Wantz, Youth Program Coordinator at 410-386-2826.

Spring Job Fair – Save the Date

BERC will host the Spring Job Fair on May 4th from 9 am – 1 pm in Westminster.  Limited spots are available for businesses to recruit for open positions, so if you would like to participate, please contact Denise Rickell at 410-386-2824.
