Job Description

This position acts as record keeper, bookkeeper, and customer service representative for the Finance Department and is responsible for a variety of general accounting functions. The primary responsibilities of this position include managing cash receipts from incoming mail/email/efts/ACHs to inputting checks, credit cards and cash into the Cashiering system, and reviewing the input of receipts to ensure accuracy. Duties also include customer service responsibility such as answering phone calls, receiving customer payments, and handling payment agreements. Additional duties include processing accounts receivable for the Finance Department as well as other City Departments. The role requires a large degree of attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining poise, accuracy, timeliness, and exceptional customer service to internal and external customers. In addition, the position will be cross trained to perform other basic accounting functions in the office to support coworkers, as needed. This is a non-supervisory role.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:
• High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma GED required, associate degree in accounting, business or related field preferred.
• Two (2) years of related bookkeeping experience; or
• Equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience.

• Knowledge of accounting practices and principles.
• Ability to act as a representative of the city to the public.
• Ability to organize, track, and maintain accounting and other records effectively and efficiently.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive employee data.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, successfully communicate with other staff members and members of the public and work
as a cohesive and collaborative team member.
• Ability to establish priorities and organize workload effectively and efficiently.
• Ability to maintain a pleasant and productive working atmosphere.
• Knowledge of the City’s policies and procedures.
• Ability to respond properly in emergency situations and complete assignments under pressure.
• Ability to keep all relevant parties informed of major issues and recommend changes as appropriate.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, the internet, e-mailing systems, and other relevant software.
• Ability to read, write, perform basic math skills, operate standard office equipment, and to understand verbal and non-verbal instructions.
